There are dozens of established mortgage lenders in the UK. Despite this fact several new lenders have been set up to increase the competition even more.
Victoria and Unity have been set up over the last few years to provide a service to borrowers in their respective specialisms. Both lenders have been set up as intermediary only. This means that they are not accessible directly from the public but only through mortgage brokers.
Unity is funded by Investec who were seeking a lending proposition in the UK and decided on Unity.
Packagers have recently become increasingly disheartened by lenders encouraging direct rather than intermediary business. Some packagers may discourage their intermediary networks from recommending anti-packager lenders. Indeed, in the future packagers may set up more lenders in response to the existing trend of lenders to woo direct business.
